In November 2010 Mike purchased a small company called RoadRunner Racing Ltd. It was formed a few years earlier by Kevin Hickling, Kevin had made the motorcycle engined SR1, a venture started with the legendary Martin Keenan. About fifteen of them were made, one of which Mike owned. Kevin told Mike  when he was ordering some spares for his SR1 ,that David Flavell the designer of the SR1 was designing a new seven style two seater based on a single donor vehicle the Mazda MX5. Stephen Holland (Kevins brother in law) got involved at this point, and helped Kevin with development and financing of the new SR2 model.

 

Mike told Kevin he was very interested in the new model . Mike was the owner of Automotive Repair Company a company Mike started in 1988 ,that had specialised in the Mazda MX5 since 2002.

 

Mike saw the prototype a few months later and decided that he wanted one. An order was placed a few weeks later as soon as specification and a price was agreed and Mike had sorted a suitable donor car. It was a 1989 G registration 1600cc MOT failure with a lot of rust on the bodywork, perfect for the new car.

 

A few months later it passed I.V.A and was on the road. A short time after this Mike got a phone call from Steve asking if he was interested in buying the company.The sale had come about due to Steve's other business interests, he felt it now needed someone with different skills to move it forward.

 

Kevin, Steve and Dave have all helped considerably since Mike took over RoadRunner Racing and he is most grateful for their continued support.

 

A new contributor to RoadRunner is Kyle Rushall, Mike met Kyle at a Kit Car Show two years ago. He wanted to know if Mike could do an SR2 with a V8 LS1 5700cc engine. Mike said he didn't know "but we can find out" was the reply. Six months later between them they had completed the first one and tested it at Blyton Park Driving Centre, North Lincs.

 

Kyle is now involved in the latest model the LM1, it is a much modified version of the SR1 with all new bodywork.

Look out for the new model over the next few months.
